smokefree

A questionnaire based  survey was  conducted last week in the Topiwala National Medical College and B.Y.L Nair Hospital , Nair Dental College . Among the 140 students  surveyed, an overwhelming 100%  (including the smokers) supported the ban on smoking in public places in Mumbai. These are some of the reasons they stated :

  • “Even  passive smoking has it’s own adverse effects. So people who smoke put others at risk along with themselves which they don’t have any right to”
  • “Cigarette smoking  is a matter of individual choice ,but one should be aware that he does not harm society”-smoker
  • “In a way it helps to rehabilitate all the smokers and improvises the health of all Mumbaikars”
  • “I support the ban as smoke is harmful and I woould want to save myself and other people from receiving secondary access to smoke through active smokers for a healthy life ahead ”
  • “Tobacco today is one of the worst enemies of the youth.Todays generation considers it to be a style statement, not knowing the ill effects. It is we who have to change this scenario and I am all for it”
  • ” I support the smokefree ban since it makes people aware of the ill-effects of tobacco and smoking .this will help in saving the lives of many people in India”
  • “It is an excellant initiative for the citizens especially the people who are addicted to smoking and who are unaware of the ill-effects”
  • “Smokefree in Mumbai is one thing which will take this country higher up”
  • “It will improve the standard of living of many people and also make mumbai a better place to live in”
  • “Why only in Mumbai? It should be implemented all over the world and the laws should be strict ”
  • “For a smokefree,peaceful,clean environment”
  • “Why should we as non-smokers suffer at the cost of others”
  • “Because I don’t want to be a passive smoker”
  • “Live a happy smokefree life”
  • “It can save lives of many people and prevent many people from getting addicted”
  • “DEFINATE YES!It’s been high time it’s imposed”

3 Cheers to the students of TNMC and Nair Dental for their smokefree spirit!
